"Schwartzman plays our protagonist-guide as Rushmore redux." that's the most out of the blue bullshit i've ever read on this website.

The majority of the reviews this film has received is more inexplicable than the actual film

6.5 is probably a safe score because the viewer's opinion could easily fluctuate greatly from one viewing to the next. I saw this last night and initially thought, "Wow, this is the best film I've seen all year." But now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure the next time I see I'll hate it. The same thing happened with Eternal Sunshine. Your mood at the time will dictate your enjoyment of the film more than its actual quality. In that case, I recommend this film heartily for those who are looking for a little absurdity for the sake of it.

I saw Eternal Sunshine with my girlfriend and thought it was the most profound reflection on love and the human experience I'd seen in years. Saw it again on a transatlantic flight this summer and could barely keep my eyes open, I was so bored.

hexagon is probly correct. that said, i went into this movie expecting to be disappointed, and not looking for much in the way of substance. i left extremely pleased and pleasantly surprised by the humor, and sometimes...sometimes intelligent dynamics. if this film tried to take itself seriously it would be shit. but it doesnt, and neither should you (take it too seriously). i'd say its deserving of an 8 or so.

This "review" is colossally annoying. You write: "It’s not clear whether the movie is searching for a singular meaning of life or deconstructing the proposition that such a thing even exists." I'm wondering if you even saw the film. The could not have been clearer about its conclusion. I'm afraid you adjourned to the lobby to look at a postcard of Mt. Rushmore during the resolution.
