I hate Prince no matter what you try to say about him. And as for the Beatles, well, I suppose I don't mind them, and they were good, but I wouldn't call them a favorite. I'd say I'd be more willing to defend the Smiths AND Radiohead rather than either/ or. Good article though.

Holy shit. This is EXACTLY, to the fucking word, how my post-college-graduation months were spent: "As I graduated from college, and slowly shed my love of sixties and seventies pop music—the shaggy vagabond in me--I began to sample new music. I had shut myself off from anything modern for the previous four years, and I looked to the top of the heap from the start. I picked up OK Computer, attracted by the Pink Floyd references and the overwhelming praise. I was unemployed, and truth be told, not really looking. I was waiting. The world began to look a bit shadowy, as parents nagged about a job and I waded through the papers, seeing nothing worth doing ... ." Well, not to the word. Replace "OK Computer" with "Keep It Like a Secret" and "Pink Floyd" with "Neil Young." And in your year-end thoughts, I recall you mentioning your wife leaving. I feel like I'm on the verge of that as well. It appears we're on parallel tracks, friend.

Let me tell you about my school days and the Beatles non stop on the turntable. Wankers like this Derek, apparently from a long unbroken line of boring, whiny and insolent white boys, force fed me Beatles everyday - a big tape loop ad nauseum. The fact that he embraced his parents music during adolescence says volumes. In my day, the hippies were cursed daily and the shlock that they worshipped was shredded venomously into the fuel tank for the most fun endeavor of killing all that the ugly, lame hypocrites held dear with big black boots and pointy sharp hair. Derek is the poster boy for the reason that I went punk. I was literally starting to gag reading of his trolling suburbia listening to... the Beatles?! Just goes to show you that these kids never learned how to have a good time. The fact that Radiohead beats his meat just goes to prove it. What Hope is talking about is ultra fuck and ultra swoon. What is Derek talking about is ultra wank and more ultra wank.

Oh, so punk really *is* an attitude. An attitude of elitism, closed-mindedness, and venom. Just because someone has different tastes than you doesn't mean that your tastes are more or less valid than his. And where did you grow up, the gutter? I'll give you a million dollars if you didn't grow up in the suburbs.

Take it easy hunky. I am doing the same as you - expressing my opinion. And I hope you have that million in your account because I could sure use the cash.

GREAT bit of bullying! Thank goodness "My Adidas" finally gave the boot to those Docs and mascara, though if I had the cash, I'd get that Siouxsie box set. "Savoy Truffle", at least, is ultra swoon, inasmuch as it's no "Le Grind". Somehow, my prescient 8 year old self loved "I'm So Tired", as well as Bowie's "Hunky Dory", not realizing how apt they'd be later in life. But 1999 hit when I was 13 and hormonal. Gotta give it up to Prince. Even my brother-in-law said "Hell, I'd fuck him".
