I think you meant The Big Hand for track 3. |

| | Good job... I could never get past the third track of Wish without finding something better to do. I put together your track list, though, and it's really not bad. Actually, a little better than Kiss me kiss me kiss me (there's an album that needs some trimming). Who would have thought there were actually great songs buried in this mess? |

| | Good calls! I agree with our friend up there that "This Twilight Garden" could surely have been crowbarred in somewhere - it's too fabulous not to. I've always believed "The Big Hand" belongs on the album, and I guess Porl Thompson did too since he stuck a big .. uh .. hand on the inside cover (oh yes - the artwork is fine, you fiend!) |

| | Wow! Great idea! Savvy take on "Open" ("Want" is a much better late-Cure-album-opener-about-rock-star-excess), but I'm not sure I can handle "End" at the beginning. None of the other tracks really have the immediate oomph that you want at the beginning, though...
I fall with the herd as far as "Wendy Time" goes. I might be able to tolerate it as a B-side, but it's just a squalling embarassment after the epic "Green Sea". I thought about replacing it with "Halo", but that might sound a bit redundant sitting right before "High". How about slotting "Trust" in "Wendy"'s spot, but cutting it off at 4:00, leaving off the needless noodling repetition?
As long as we're messing with actual tracks as well as listings, I'd also like to work the lone, gritty bass bridge from the remix of "Elise" into the original's jaw-dropping arrangement.
Christ, I could do this all day. The girlfriend and I nearly started throwing punches when we tried to settle on tracks to cut from "Kiss Me" a while ago. |

| | good idea. i've been talking about doing something similar for a while now. but with all due respect, you're out of your mind! all but one of the "Wish" b-sides are better than just about anything on the album. "this twilight garden" and "scared as you" in particular are two of the band's absolute best songs ever. to leave "doing the unstuck" (and to bump it to second!) and to still leave these two off, is downright daffy.
that said, i offer the following: remove the cheesy pop songs and replace them with the "Wish" b-sides, as well as the disintigration b-sides ("babble", "out of mind", "scared of ghosts" and "2late" !). working with material as uniformly as strong as this, it wouldn't even matter what order it was sequenced in. this would make for an incredible album. |

| | At the end of the day, I would have to say that I do really like "Wish". Part of that is due to it being Porl Thompson (one of the greatest unsung guitar hero) and Boris Williams' swan song, and they make it count. However, I think it could have been a more focused album, that with some fine tuning could have been a classic.
1. Open (I'm in the minority here, but I think it's a great opening track)
2. High - Single Mix (One of the Cures best popsongs. The single mix has some lovely keyboard parts.)
3. Scared As You - Friday I'm in Love B-Side (Great rocker. Potent lyrics and great guitar by Porl)
4. Halo - Friday I'm in Love B-Side (Another wonderful popsong. The guitar lick by Porl during the chorus nails it.)
5. From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea (Arguably the best song on "Wish". And epic and instant classic. Great way to end the A-Side.)
6. Friday I'm in Love (Yeah, the lyrics are silly, but dammit if I don't catch myself singing along. That being said, this piece has some of the most inventive and intuitive guitar playing on a silly popsong by Thompson, Smith and Bamonte.)
7. This Twilight Garden - High B-Side (It's a crime, I say, a bloody crime that this song was left off the album. On of the Cure's best B-Sides, if not songs of all time.)
8. Doing the Unstuck (A vigorously, high energy popster. My only gripe with this one is that Porl is tooooooo low in the mix. See the extended mix on "Join the Dots" or the "Show" live version where the man simply goes off, for how it should sound.)
9. The Big Hand - Letter to Elise B-Side (The song that almost made the album. Porl is all over this one.)
10. End (It's called "End", it rocks and closes the album. Good enough for me.) |
