buzz been flying about this review on several boards. exquisite syntax that is almost nabokovian or even faulknerian in its precision-cum-universality. i'd love to see you review the new bruno/hibey film "acting civil" upon its release.

very nice review. Some of the genuine dialogue at times trounces on the visual medium's inherent ability to express emotion (bold claim), but maybe reaction shots wouldn't get the job done: "the figurative signposts" might well enough be left alone as that, but the dialogue continues, stripping away some of the poignancy. and then ater, did we need his rejection of her in the car? maybe overplayed? we're still getting used to his flaming hands...I think her continued efforts within film will rely less on dialogue, making for some intense scenes. And some ironic distance remains in the goldfish scene, tongue firmly embedded within the inner sinews of the cheek (that was wordy), but I think that's why the scene actually works, and especially because of its place in the film (to be introduced to a character by a funeral rite involving a casual 'I love you' to a goldfish must be somewhat ironic, unless that's what you mean by 'gravely coded,' in which case I'm a jerk), but yes, the subtle warmth in scenes elsewhere is not often found in other films; it creeps unknowingly, flushing without audience embarrassment. creates some nice moments...unless you like Garden State's rotting abc bubble gum aftertaste of the last 20-30 minutes. Go Hollywood indie GO! and why is acting civil mentioned here? i really hope that wasn't deacon. this posting was too long, but I miss you. love
