Gotta love Norwegian Death Metal. Those pics are fucking scary, especially Nattefrost of Carpathian Forest.

BTW, jhitting, Nattefrost's covered w/ his own shit in that pic.

I followed the link and looked at all the pictures, and I have to say that they are pretty amazing. Great photography work, and they make me understand Norwegian Black Metal a bit better (even if I think it's dumb). There was one guy on there who said that it was "like the opera, either you get it and you see it as a way of expressing moods and atmospheres, or you don't get it...the visual part is a way of enhancing musical expression." I think that at the heart of it, that's what all music is about. It sort of makes me see the Black Metal thing differently now. Except the whole church burning and impaling people thing....I'm not sure I understand that.

bassman, black metal has been around for long enough (15, 20 years) so that the artform now has much depth and diversity. There are enough bands out there so that one could easily explore the genre on the basis of music alone. The added visual/cultural element really makes the music come alive, though.

I definatly don't doubt that, cosmokane. I'd assume it's just like any other genre. But the whole visual element is just so intriguing that it's sort of hard to overlook. I don't know anything about Black Metal, so I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to the music.

"Except the whole church burning and impaling people thing....I'm not sure I understand that." Fortunately, these instances have been few; it's really been blown out of proportion by opportunists who want to sell books - I'll mention no names. The church burnings are more tied to paganism than BM, IMO. They are seen and propagated as acts of "reclamation:" many Norwegian churches were built on pagan holy sites. Hopefully, (Cosmo & I) will have a Metal "Primer" together by Jan. for those who don't know where to start.

I was only referring to that one guy that they interviewed on the site. And the metal primer would be really cool.
