Erm, Mya was never on The Tamperer track. It was a singer called Maya. What a fantastically well researched article this is.

What? M.I.A. was on "Ghetto Superstar"?!?

Also, I was just thinking about that whole "Stan"/"Thank You" thing the other day. Regardless of the quality of the end product (for the record: solidly meh), it just seems so... _weird_. I made my peace with sampling and mash-ups long ago, but something about taking entire verses from one song and dropping them into another just strikes me as very odd, especially when it's not some obscure old track but a song that's currently being played on Top 40 radio.

While Ludacris' best moments are probably guest spots, the idea that he is not "the master of the short, sharp, obtuse and outrageous one liner and double entendre" on the majority of his solo work is shocking and offensive.

I have it on good authority (my uncle's Dido's manager) that some producer (not Dre, some other guy) had the verse from Thank You on a mix tape or some such, and he and Eminem decided to use it back in mid-99, just after No Angel was released and many months before Thank You was on the radio. They asked her if they could use it and, obviously, she said yes.

FWIW, before DJ Shadow's 2002 Warfield show in SF began, the pre-show music's CD player broke and played Jurassic Five's "Thin Line" (featuring Nelly Furtado) some 20 times. People were crying by the end.

haha sounds like everyone's mad at you! I'm afraid I have to join the pile-on. I like the article but 1) Mya has good albums! "Thiiiings come and goooooo, seasons change..." 2) I don't think 'featuring' is Diddy's strongest skill really! 3) can't say I agree on Sean Paul either 4) Erick covered Luda but 5) who cares! Good piece.

I was thinking you would have Beth Orton on this list because the picture on the home page looks kind of like her. Oh, and, Jamie Foxx.

Except it is Dido. And Beth Orton's albums are actually very good for the most part.

Oh yeah, def. Jamie Foxx. Good call, j, his single is awful.

why is there no love in this world for “My Love Is Like… Wo”? i'd actually like to know what about it you find confusing. unless by confusing you meant 'i don't know what Wo means"

"Sean Paul had little to offer most listeners other than “Get Busy” and “Feel Alright”" this is pure insanity.

You think it's insanity? Note the phrase "MOST LISTENERS". Go up to Joe/Jane Average FM Radio Fan on the street and ask him what he thinks of Sean Paul. You'll be lucky to get 'wasn't he that shake that thing dude?' out of him/her.

I fully agree on Dido, and Ludacris (one of the worst mcs currently out there imo). Ok so you hate Oasis, that explains Noel Gallagher. But cmon Nelly Furtado?? I can understand when someone doesn't like her voice. But she had some killer tracks on Folklore, Explode and Try were just great. Folklore might be a little more difficult than Whoa but in the end it's way better.

twopuddings - it's been reported that Eminem heard 'Thank You' on the Sliding Doors soundtrack, or better yet, that he was watching Sliding Doors. I choose to believe this, as I like to picture Eminem thinking about whether he preferred mousy Gwyneth or empowered cropped-haired Gwyneth. Top list. Brilliant call on Dido sipping chai latte. Ha.
