| How about, it's 2006 and U2, Hendrix, and Classic Rock period are (While maybe good or whatever) fundamentally an easy out for people who are afraid to venture caring about anything that Rolling Stone hasn't sanitized for them? Actively liking that stuff is, as with the world cup teams/ car manufacturers, a way to align yourself with not losing. That's the underlying problem I have with putting any energy into it; elevating it seems to implicitly presuppose that everything worth throwing yourself at has already happened. On a micro level it could still work (I was 16 when I last into Hendrix/Doors/ Whatever) but on a macro level, I'd rather risk 45 minutes free associating though nobodies on myspace who might know how to bring the fucking danger instead of trying to get into something that's been commodified to the point that it doesn't feel like a threat. |
