| This review almost makes up for your shocker submitted for Dead Man's Shoes. I say, almost, as The Departed is clearly deserved of an A. It is the first flick in years that I've come out of the cinema actually breathing a sigh of relief at its brilliance, while also living up to all those glowing one-liners from the aforementioned MetaCritic.

| Its going to take a lot to make up for the Dead Mans Shoes debacle but by picking out Mark Wahlberg youve taken a step in the right direction - he not so much steals the scenes he's in but devours them. The first thought I had when I left the cinema was not how good it was (it was by the way - probably a B) but how much I would pay to see a film with his character as the lead. He really does take himself to the next level with this one and if his performance doesnt prick the academys attention there really will be no justice in this crazy world. |

| "who am I? I'm the guy who does his job, you must be the other guy."

| I agree. this is definately movie of the year material. the whole cast nails it. |

| Come on, I think B+ is a fair score. Goodfellas in an A, Taxi Driver is an A. This is a Scorsese rally, but not one of his truly great movies. It's a slick and monumentally enjoyable film that proves a great director past his best is still king of the juniors. But, come on, it's no where near Raging Bull, is it? It's right to put some distance between his all time classics and his great pop follies. He ssems to have moved into a Sidney Lumet phase - crafting grade narratives - minus Lumet's strong sense of justice it must be said - but long may it continue. B+, i'll go with that. |

| Great review, accurate score. This movie is entertaining as hell with some great acting by everyone involved, but it lacked the same heart, sadness, and sheer brutality of Goodfellas or Raging Bull or Taxi Driver. I put it at #2 behind The Aviator and ahead of Gangs in Marty's recent cannon. |

| i'm really disappointed stylus reviewed this now, i was hoping they'd do their usual "wait six months, rent it, wait another four months, write review" method. |
|
| I'm not convinced JT actually watched this movie closely. |
