Top 50 Singles in December? Wouldn't it make more sense to flauut your public genitalia in June when the seasons are co-mingling singledom with romance? Aren't these picks like matchsticks flicked into a pool? If you're goint to fraternize Ne-Yo with Miranda! and reignite the lactosic melting point between cream & milk, isn't it like a latino & a punjab arguing over satin or silk? The Stylus singles list always misses the gist of the year's know-nothing plus latent memorabilia and winds up constipating on a sourcelet of private parlezvous. Inskeep's disinstantiated choice plays Gay Gordon to Powell's sublimated horniness; Colville and Passantino fall in Love with Southfall's methylated out-of-datedness. LDN. Little Dance Number you are a joyous cockroach coated in candy smegma. I watched Hello Saferide - that's the comb that separates these hairs I've split. Others shall follow.

ah, it's good to see the pop backlash is starting early this year. although i thought the ne-yo song came out in 2005? either way, i had completely forgotten how amazing it was until now. good inclusion, i have trouble seeing what anybody dislikes about that song (great lyrics, amazingly written and arranged, a usually-missing attention to detail). stylus typically puts out my favorite singles list because it's at least a somewhat more global affair than usual, and typically tries less hard than say, pitchfork to reconcile it's indieness with it's popness. it'll be interesting to see what else shows up here.

Glad to see "Cable Car" crack the list, even if it's only because Dom put it at #1. Maybe 10 years from now today's hipsters will "rediscover" it as a guilty pleasure (see: entire Gin Blossoms oeuvre).

Growing increasingly tired of these pseudo-intellectual posts. Don't bother trying to type if you don't have a point to make - your only hiding your indecision behind a wash of nonsense. It's just tedious...

If you're referring to my rather incisive cut above then reread it & meditate on it awhile, there's something much more subliminal going on. On the other hand, nothing more nonsensically pointless & trivial than complaining about someone else's trivial & nonsensical post. Now be a constructivist.

Ok, I bought Berlinette, or someone I lived with did, or it's found its way into my CD collection somehow back in the ahem heyday (?) of Raumschmiere and all that Shitkatapult flotsam's soon-to-be unrealized but once too widely acknowledged potential, but is that Ellen Alien 90s throwback glitchfest really a top 50 single of the year? If so, I'm glad I slept through most of 2006.

Okay...let's play the guessing game. The following songs will be on this list: Gnarls Barkley - Crazy T.I. - What Kou Know Nelly Furtado - Maneater Justin Timberlake - My Love Hot Chip - Over and Over The Pipettes - Pull Shapes I'm From Barceona - We're From Barcelona Clipse - Mr. Me Too Outkast - Probably Morris Brown Junior Boys - So This Is Goodbye Lupe Fiasco - Kick Push/Daydream Prince - Black Sweat

Ne-Yo is a beautiful man. He's the saving grace here so far today. Those kids with the white turtlenecks look like theyr'e asking to get the shit kicked right out of them. Must be American Apparel had a mark-up sale--30% more for your sweatshop-free-but-Dov-Charney endorsed cotton pajamas--on everything on the coca-extract color wheel. Just like the murderer/hope of women/death in every new beginning/i must take this woman for my center/of LIFE. The-Terrorist, fie on you, how could madamoiselle bonmot herself not acknowledge the utter mindfucking brilliance of such a one as Momus, whose earlier stuff (back when he was good and relevant) not only has lyrics (above) that manage to crib an obscure Oscar Kokoshka expressionist theatre indulgence-binge but also his average listener catches the reference. erm... I think "don" by Miranda was an ok song, pretty big in my country and I must confess I loved it when it came out before I was increasingly irritated at it being played daily on radio and even clubs, the problem is the song is not from 2006, both the record and the single came out before March 2005.

Okay, now this list is REALLY starting to scare me. Panic! At The Disco? Morningwood? Rihanna? My Chemical motherfucking Romance? I mean, yeah, Clipse is on there, but with the amount of shit you've put on this list, that seems like an attempt to appease a few people.
Posted 12/12/2006 - 08:41:06 AM by reklaw:
yeah, i kinda take back what i said yesterday. this set of 10 looks like exists almost EXCLUSIVELY to reconcile the elitist (sonic youth, a 27-minute villalobos track) with the mainstream (my chemical romance, lillix). some good songs here, but damn. this least seems suspicious, somehow
Posted 12/12/2006 - 08:41:51 AM by reklaw:
this list seems suspicious, also
Posted 12/12/2006 - 09:54:48 AM by terrorist:
Totally, Johnedowney. I mean, I'm all for simulacra and simulations and shit--I'm way late on a 40 page paper about it--but wtf Rihanna?? Maybe they want to bone her, but that "song" that is based on a Soft Cell sample? No hook whatsoever. Clipse being on the list is insulting.
Posted 12/12/2006 - 09:59:14 AM by terrorist:
GOD this is bad. Most of this isnt' even well-crafted pop. Novelty pop is one thing (Lilix? eh?)--we all know I love me some Kriss Kross and whateva-- but My Chemical Romance is quite another breed of worthless. If it sucks like Kriss Kross but doesn't also have the same sort of sonic impact Kriss Kross did (think about subsequent boyrappers Bow Wow, etc.) then it is not even novelty pop it's ONE OFF pop. Someone explain this to them in sportsese, a language I suspect they'd understand. PS Villalobos is a terrible junkie.

Posted 12/11/2006 by terrorist: Ok, I bought Berlinette [...] (a load of "I remember 2003" blah blah Miss Kittin blah blah and irrelevant OMG 'glitch' how passe" follows)
Do you actually listen to music or just compare it with reviews? Damn. Seeing as nobody -ever- notices perhaps it's worth pointing out that Ms. Allien has outlived & outgrown more than one zeitgeist she's been associated with, the whole early 00's nu-electro thing, tigerbeat "danceable" IDM, electroclash, electro-house... and probably doubt more to come. If there was to be one single in the top 50 I'd have personally plumped for the dead-on, dizzying Border Community euphoria of "Jet" but who cares. "Orchestra Of Bubbles" is certainly one of the albums of the year anyway.
Posted 12/12/2006 - 10:32:22 AM by terrorist:
I actually listen to music. And in fact wrote half the presskit for fucking Ellen Allien Berlinette. So I have to like it? And I'm so sick of people tacking "electro" onto anything. Electro is a beat that Allien doesn't use. She's like glitchcore. Fuck you Fandango. I'm already pissed enough this morning.
Posted 12/12/2006 - 10:37:08 AM by AKMoose:
For fun, watch the performance of "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" from MTV's Video Music Awards: http://youtube.com/watch?v=F6si7JZ5R3w Look at how the only vaguely interesting part of this song is the orchestra in the background, and how nervous an lost the band seems, especially the worst vocal performance of the year ("Haven't you people ever heard of closing a GoOoOoOoOoOoOd damn door?")
Posted 12/12/2006 - 10:42:24 AM by fandango:
yeah, you do sound pissed! Have a lie down, I don't wish you any ill-feeling. I'm sick of tagging electro onto genres too (about as sick as I am of "minimal" being abused) but it wasn't me who started it. No you don't have to like it, I don't care that much, but seriously... press kit? and you reductively misinterpret her stuff to "glitchcore" wtf? When did she turn into Otto Von Schirach?
Posted 12/12/2006 - 10:52:59 AM by fandango:
sorry, I don't really want to carry on nitpicking and doing down your work (even if I don't see it the same, I'd be fine with 'pop techno' or something tbh). It's been a lacklustre year singles wise for me but stylus EOY lists are always reliably batshit, I have to get my amusement somewhere ;)
Posted 12/12/2006 - 10:59:26 AM by terrorist:
I'm sending all kinds of negative vibes and hopefully a really bad UTI over the wifi at these douches. Allien is ok, but her vocoded vocals aren't that great and the sort of passe skkratch of her DJ stylistics are pretty tame. I used to love minimal but I'm getting tired of it. You can't rehash your favorite music from back in your raver heyday forever unless you expect someone to notice. (FYI I hate males. Partially because they are the only creatures on earth who would put Mr. Me Too on this list. And then for so many other reasons. Even a bape hoodie with little ghost faces in size S arriving at my door wouldn't cheer me up right now. But it's worth a try. The world's gonna end now, thanks to Stylus, anyway)

Since when does our illustrious Stylus Magazine decide to throw this kind of soundwrench into my audioday? Not only do we have here songs so pugnaciously repugnant I am surprised even Dom Passantino would list them, but we have a multimedia slideshow just because they`re so obscurified and one-offed (high five The-Terrorist) that no one has even heard them. Singles no one has ever heard. And if you believe that I have some smooth, tasty, cracking good snake oil I`d love to sell you, JessGraves. Crackyardbetty tries to mollify the need for Disexists` vivissections above but The-Terrorist is quite clearly still fragmentalised, screaming all the way to the chair, her little mind all cloudy without me. And reklaw- reklaw is onto something.

Oh man, awesome. This list is like, all of my actual favorite music from 2006 (since basically every indie rock release I was looking forward to this year was enormously disappointing). But I'm still hoping for an appearance by the Thermals' "Pillar of Salt", my surprise #1 of the year.

Mr. Me Too's on no list of mine. FWIW (even though I personally love the previous stuff) the vocals on the Ellen/Apparat record (inc. Way Out) aren't quite right for me either. Awkward. I'm also tiring of minimal, feel like it's slumped creatively, at least for listening to at home. Wouldn't turn down a return visit to panorama bar of course...

that ciara song is too hot for words and "promise" should be more like at 15
Posted 12/12/2006 - 07:57:53 PM by CokeAnnCowgirl:
My favourite six songs are X, Y, Z, A, B and C. A rocks harder than Y but is sexier than C. C does the slowjam better than X but Y gets it into bed quicker. Listening to X my hand slipped into my pants. I thought Z was a zzzfest at first but now Z fills my dreams. X is has me coming back for more. B and Y would sound ultra if they were played over toppa one another. I wouldn`t need a boyfriend then. And Y is a great big dildo in my left hand. Y does that shonky spasming thing better than X though. A is ace. On second thoughts A is the acest of my picks. But I`m much much too shy to tell you what these songs` titles are because the WHOLE FUCKING LOT OF YOU WOULD KICK UP A SHITSTORM ABOUT IT>
Posted 12/12/2006 - 08:07:02 PM by terrorist:
High five, CokeAnn, that's exactly how i pick songs. Speaking of musical dildos, that's pretty much what Promise is. Ciara's hair extensions and leotard look so good I'd do her six ways to senseless. It would be even hotter if they just skipped the music videos and made like movies of Ciara doing Cam'Ron. i'd never have to buy another CD. Timbaland and Timberlake finally getting it on would be one to see, too.

I come on here every year to explain that the singles list is in dire need of a Sty-Pro(-clamative) sales push if it aims to breach the niche market of vamp-coolies, hunkjunkies and sickshitsters that die trying to resuscitate the payola our Sty-writers pretend not to reap despite the reams of catatonic bismillah they inject into the list blurb. Make mine a toast, spread with their`s; a third of a turd of the word of a nerd. But they`re not even nerds because they`ve got you oh foul & contemptuous one-line pissbox commandeer of the comments box Glottalplosive. They`ve got cwperry to wipe themselves of this list and when the dissing`s done and Stylus has still won with it`s bleated borrowings from youtube, oh how the sickshitsters will topple like dominoes in a bid to vamoose the United States of Pop Affrontal. I kedge thee; read what you do into this list and care more less not.

What did I miss? Salaminipples reminds me of the guy who died fartpissdrunk with his head down the loo & the flush on broken. He drowned ingloriously & his family, poor Mike went into permanent intemporal dementia forever. Redundancy is not an option, if I may be so selfqueer in flamboying to you George. No, we have forgotten the singles in this list before they were ever posted and Sandwichknuckles? Who dat? It`s the people who don`t quite post that I love. The ones who read this comment box and can`t quite bring themselves down to the seedy depression it takes to deliver a fresh faction over the face of a Stylus article, are the ones I admire. You there inbetween CokeAnnCowgirl and Winterborn, you the invisible poster who clicked and then thought better of it, it`s your obliging opinion I can hear in the silence that ensues after a post like this.

We all know that SexyBack and Over and Over are meta-billions of lightyears better, more interesting, and cooler than that Camera Obscura tweebortion. And we obviously all knew I'd say that, being meta-obvious that this was done purposefully to get my panties in a bunch over first Justin Timberlake (who is infinitely sexier now with his Urban Brokeback Hipster from the Future shtick), and when I calmed down, and then some pat dismissal of the guitar wonking on Over and Over that works at first but on repeated listens kinda detracts from the album. Love the last track on The Warning, a real sleeper. The concept from the Nelly Furtado video is ok at first. Even this harpie of a hatah needs sleep and love though I'm out.

hell yeah. i love every one of 29-21, except maybe "sexy-back". does this mean "silent shout" (the song) is in the top 20? oughtta, also "let's get out of this country," though it won't be. and "my love" natch.
Posted 12/13/2006 - 10:41:58 AM by :
"Silent Shout" has the whackest beat ever BOOM-CHI-BOOM-CHI-BOOM-CHI, the production is all midrange superBRIGHT and low frequency muddy and the fake pentatonic shit gets old fast. People who think they'd want to dance to that song don't really dance ever, I've noticed. My boyfriend once referred to it as "party music for stoners who don't party." It might be worthy of like a number 43.

Yeah, Winterborn, they *can*, but you have to do something pretty dang nastay. The male urethra is so much longer it has to be some really killer bacteria to make its way up there (unless you have a tiny dick). For girls, you basically have to think about having decent sex and you've got one. FYI. Bad sex tends not to have a tangible effect, it's like an inverse proportion. I guess nature prefers women to be celibate unless their husbands are demanding their weekly 10-minute sesh.

Posted 12/13/2006 - 07:19:45 PM by :
My boyfriend and I just decided that Robyn is music that our most Italian gay friends would think was really cool for like one day behind the scenes of fashion week when they were hanging out with Heatherette like 3 years ago. Then when the meth and champagne hangover wore off, they'd be mortified. Then he saw this [ http://www.myspace.com/rebeccamiana ] and said "Accch, Swedish people are the new English--mediocrity is now something to celebrate." He is a bigger snob than I am, even. Then I added "more like they're finally onto shit Brooklynites abandoned 5 years ago." And he said "Exactly." I A few nights ago I decided that "Straight to Hell" is the sound of shooting a tremendous speedball somewhere in Vietnam or Cambodia on a Christmas morning in 1969 that you cooked up in a shell casing. You're sweating and the slow fuzz of the humidity dissolves into a lucid droney glow on the water where the brothel's lamps reflect dancing glints that remind you of the Christmas lights Aunt Mabel used to have on her porch in Peoria. He completely agreed.
Posted 12/13/2006 - 11:33:53 PM by :
Slamdunk that. It would take a whole lot of plebio-certification of me to re-agree with you but I`m out for the count on a dozen or so of these disingenuous salivatings. Camera Obscura were somebody my great aunty Nurry (at the time she was down & guttered out on diplosics) would have chucked off the stereo if she`d been doing her usual living room helicopter flight trips for the kids. Jump! Jump! And I did & I distinctly remember "Lloyd I`m ready to exfoliate my dandruff" spraying the bookshelf like a male cat. Territorial pissings aside, the blonde chick in the video can come round to Auntie Nurry`s anytime and play helicopter, although I wouldn`t recommend letting the cat out of the bag, Jessgraves. The only thing we`ll be shooting when YOU come over will be furballs.

ok, since no one has taken the time to answer my question: yes, "Turbo Dreams" was the first single from Ellen Allien & Apparat, and so yes, Peter, the blurb for "Way Out" is incorrect. you are ever so smart. re: #21-30, about half of those should be in the top ten, so i'm afraid to see what your top ten will hold. and that song about Lloyd FUCKING SUCKS COME ON STYLUS GO OUT AND GET LAID YOU NEED IT

Seriously though, if you're going for 'biggest band in the world' type stuff, My Chemical Romance outdoes the Killers, no questions asked. It's just a better song. Your list boggles the mind. Even Jacques Lu Cont had difficulty making that single sound huge.

Moon unit, have a look at this sentence I've just written. It uses the imperative form (have) followed by verb & object (look at this sentence) followed by a relative clause using the present perfect form (I've just written) and tell me is there anything much wrong with it? No? Exactly, the words are all in the exact perfect order, much like the singles our Stylus buddies have selected for their year-end best list. 50 songs in perfectamundo order exactly the way they came out of the factory. Caveat emptor baby. Let the buyer beware.

My boyfriend says hi, Grandbanks, only he says it like this "hallo." Why are they scared of my boyfriend? He couldn't give a shit. About anything but Tietchens and his drum machines. When I got home just now I saw he cut his own hair and bought some Ritter Sport chocolate cremes. I wouldn't be surprised if that's all he's eaten today or if he just got out of bed an hour ago. My entertainment committee is here but i have to do something first. BTW, Disexists is right up there.

I wonder if Pull-Shapes will actually make it to the top 10, with all the Pipettes-haters and all...anyway, just for fun here's my prediction for some of the songs I'd like to see tomorrow and my guess for their rank: 10.-Pull-Shapes 09.-My Love 05.-Smile 02.-Crazy 01.-Promiscuous

One house gone! I like this list a lot becuase it seems to be reflective of the music I have been entertained by in 2006, and it's great to see other people enjoying the same pleasures as I have. However, "Crazy" is ear-torture. Now we can focus our attention on the albums list, wooo. My savings are on "Return to Cookie Mountain" but I will hold a party at my place if either "FutureSex/LoveSounds", "This New Day," or "So This is Goodbye" come up trumps.

you know, when you think about it, "crazy" is the best thing that happened to music publications like stylus and pitchfork. it's the perfect combination of indie cred and pop music success. it also nicely clears up the issue of black music vs. skinny white kid music that people keep calling them out on. it's the easiest choice for a #1 because it appeases both camps. stylus' editors should be give danger mouse a handjob for this song (and i guess they did)

What I don't understand is why a few people always seem so *shocked* that Stylus rates mainstream pop on these lists. Like, were you just following metacritic links to indie album reviews? Because you had to be doing something weird in order to miss all the pop reviews (to say nothing of the, y'know... weekly feature where currently popular singles are discussed and rated...)

Message to TB- Stylus should have a readers poll of the top singles and albums of a given year. That would be really interesting.

I kept insisting to my one friend that I had never heard Crazy. I INSISTED, I've never heard that. Wtf is it? I read about it all the time. Then we were in a car service a few weeks agoon acid and he was like--HERE IT IS. And I was like--this?? Yeah, I've heard this. I thought Crazy must have audio of God orgasming on it or something, the way indiecrits talked about it. It's just another Ceelo song. Uyye.

TI is HOT he does not make me uneasy. Bring Em Out was a better song, either way.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 08:32:54 AM by :
stop talking about black men and hiphop artists making you uneasy, stylus people! why? cuz they deal drugs? ppfspfspfsdf
Posted 12/15/2006 - 08:42:22 AM by johnedowney:
And...wow. I can actually live with the top ten. Amazing.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 09:28:42 AM by florenz6:
Jess, such a nice person! by the way, are you on drugs, or is ego-tripping your natural way of being here? These little underground girls, pretentious and posh, tjaja...:)
Posted 12/15/2006 - 09:32:49 AM by :
i'm on drugs. and ego tripping. both can work together in a fun way.

Crazy is like the Ms. Jackson of 2006.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 09:55:13 AM by eardrum:
Quite a disappointing list! Anyway, as I already mentioned a couple days ago, I uploaded all the songs to my blog: hhtp://eardrumvibrations.blogspot.com just for the fun :)

I'd complain about "The Mercury Craze" not being on there, but seeing as how that's from my new Favorite Album Ever, I guess I'm just choosing things to throw shit at.

JAYSON GREEN HAS THE BEST INDIVIDUAL LIST BY FAR

Word, CokeAnn. He even has a Spank Rock song on there!
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:01:27 AM by PlatypusQuest:
:( Not impressed with this list this year...... So many of the year's best singles were scattered between the middle and back end.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:04:51 AM by crackyardbetty:
My name is taken from the Spank Rock song. But I knew better than to hope they'd include anything as gauche and obscene as Backyard Betty.

Tal Rosenberg is in close second behind Jayson Green

"I love that Camera Obscura record, "Let´s Get Out Of This Country". It´s like they started where The Beatles did, with that love of girl groups, and they´ve done something else with it" (says the wonderful Richard Hawley in Mojo). And that´s the point - they´ve done something else with it!
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:14:08 AM by florenz6:
I know what to expect now. So, be creative and don´t react on this!

Grandbanks has all my sympathy...
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:16:04 AM by :
Something so "different" that Urban Outfitters will be sure to bombard me with it until Christmas or until I can't stand it anymore and stop going there. Speaking of girl groups, the Pipettes are going to be the Manitoba of 2006--you're gonna be saying "who?" by this time next month. And I may not be scared of drug dealers, but I am scared of how bad the delays are.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:18:32 AM by :
Will you stop reading Mojo and have a single thought of your own, Florenz? Then it might be less unbearable to read you.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:20:42 AM by :
I don't know, Evan. I know lots of guys who are man enough to sing the chorus to "Promiscuous". They're the kind who get laid.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:34:51 AM by florenz6:
To quote somebody means to add another voice, dumbass! You could read a lot of my own thoughts, if you would not be so much trapped in your endlessly embarrasing ego-games, sweetie!
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:37:03 AM by CokeAnnCowgirl:
TI can take me for a ride in his Bentley anytime. What are you talking about ego games? These are words on a screen, dipshit. Keep them that way.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:39:40 AM by CokeAnnCowgirl:
It's way more embarrassing that what The-JessGraves says bothers you at all, Florenz. Who gives a fuck?
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:45:36 AM by florenz6:
Never been more witty, Pepsi dude, really!
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:49:02 AM by :
And you've just never been witty at all, Florenz. That girl on the far left in the Pipettes looks mad trashy, like she moonlights in Skinemax softcore 11PM movie specials. Ha. Ever seen that one with the guy who fakes being blind? He's a pianist, but no one catches on--they just continue with their exhibitionist girl ("lesbian")romps unwittingly giving him a free show the whole time! I think that girl is in that one, I swear. AHahhaha. Classic.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 10:57:04 AM by florenz6:
Wittiness depends on who the reader is, little Jess! Looks a mule into a book, a mule will look out of it (frei nach Lichtenberg). You are really not setting a high standard for humour, rotlöckchen!
Posted 12/15/2006 - 11:00:06 AM by CokeAnnCowgirl:
oh. snap. i'm going to get something caffeinated, you people make me want to punch ALL OF US in the face
Posted 12/15/2006 - 11:12:22 AM by florenz6:
Well, after reading some dull words on the screen concerning the wonderful band from Glagow called Camera Obscura, I said to myself, well, let´s quote Richard Hawley who did such a fine album last year ("Coles Coner"). He´s got many new listeners after this year´s Mercury Price. And some of the people who like Hawley´s album will be a bit more curious about Camera Obscura. It might simply have a bit more impact than the listening habits of the Tritop-sexists´ family tribe!
Posted 12/15/2006 - 11:18:11 AM by reklaw:
yeah, crackyard betty, i love that song, but i'm guessing spank rock doesn't scare stylus writers enough as a rap act. it just makes them uncomfortable, which somehow pisses them off
Posted 12/15/2006 - 11:28:05 AM by CokeAnnCowgirl:
my friend emily likes richard hawley. feel better now florenz? i don't care about him really. i'd rather listen to SPANK ROCK. who are honorary whites probably unlike TI because that one black kid in it dresses all collegiate-like. they're just not uncomfortable enough for stylus, probably. and too juvenile ON PURPOSE. it's the intent thing that always gets em. florenz, you're invited to my wedding to the disexists. we'll have you pick up empties at the reception. i don't know if we're having our first baby before or after we get married. probably before. it will have only the coolest taste in music from IN UTERO.

Perhaps most of the garbage on this list was redeemed with Gnarls Barkely in the #1 spot. I certainly agree there.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 12:22:38 PM by LostCause:
Woah, can anyone explain how Jess has already inspired imitators on this board (I'm pointing at you CokeAnnCowgirl)? Also, there's no way that The Fray got more votes than Sally Shapiro. I want a recount!
Posted 12/15/2006 - 12:23:12 PM by avecmoisoir10:
what are you weirdos talking a bout! my head hurts. kopfshmartzin. this list is great. i hate it when people get mad that no one likes hip hop in the right way. hip hop is so bad!!!!! listen to it. they sound so uneducated and violent. ACDC on the other hand, is just right in terms of being out of control silly and performative but still rocking enough to pass for detached enough from reality to be ok to listen to. i would be scared too if i were a journalist--who wants to ally themselves to any hip hop artists (is that what there called these days? i always just say rapper) in print because everyone knows it's only trendy to like them. nobody rilly likes ganster rap it's all an act because MTV told you to like it. i'll admit that it's pretty funny when the ying yang boys or whoever act all ghetto. even my mom finds that joke hilarious. she'll say to me sometimes "check out my bling, dog!" it's so funny. anyway, if you're white you should only endorse this gansterap carnage if you have a hefty disclaimer pasted to the intro. that way what your saying about it you can always try to pass of as mere ironic "lost-inthe-moment" piss-taking if you have to. just in case the wind blows north again and its not "trendy" to like young jizzy or whoever next week.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 12:35:46 PM by :
Avec, it's really essential for Stylus to throw up a token gang sign up at their nearly non-existent black readership. Because it's not more insulting to do that than it would be not to include hip hop. Haha@"rap"
Posted 12/15/2006 - 01:32:50 PM by GavinM:
Fuck, I had hoped that the Pipettes were gonna be the one Pitchfork-hype bomb of the year, but there they are in the top 10. That song makes me want to stab eyeballs, mine or others.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 01:35:32 PM by GavinM:
Also, no In Luv Wit A Stripper? If vocodered country/r&b; crossover isn't 2006 zeitgeist, then what is? Some shit about hurricanes I guess?
Posted 12/15/2006 - 01:41:37 PM by :
srsly, wtf? | |
Posted 12/15/2006 - 05:48:07 PM by johnedowney:
All I can say about that Stripper song is that I saw a video for it on MTV, and right around the part where Mahk Jones announced his prescence, I contemplated seppuku.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 06:25:37 PM by :
never really saw the Mr. Me Too video before but it is SO GOOD and Pharrell is so pretty and cool, with his bandana around his neck. their kicks is all hot. i love the mise-en-scene here. the steam rising out of the pot they're cooking crack in, sped up so it seems all jumpy and dynamic. it's all so beautiful. *wipes lone tear from eye*
Posted 12/15/2006 - 06:45:24 PM by idunnowhy:
gross, the delays. most of the rest of the top 10 looks ok. better than 05's top 10, which I just googled because I'm that bored.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 06:45:59 PM by :
also, after re-watching the TI video, i am more and more angered by the glaring omission of "hustlin". fuck all y'all ross hatahs. TI's stomp is so ATL, and i love the drawls. fuckkkkkkk youuuuu.
Posted 12/15/2006 - 06:47:43 PM by :
i'm just waiting for deliveries. and trying to decide what to wear to a christmas party. i wish i had a dress made of money. and some big necklaces with like my initials and a cashmoney symbol
Posted 12/15/2006 - 06:53:06 PM by :
HAHAHAH the radio edit for the "hustlin" video is not even kinda the same song
Posted 12/15/2006 - 08:19:02 PM by mpatton:
Three fucking people chose "Pull Shapes" as the single of the year?! How depressing. It's a cynical joyless gimmick; British skanks do Phil Spector = originality? Perhaps for the English (and Canadians).

My friend just showed me this Meatbreak, if you're reading--I'm shocked you're not all pissed off over its exclusion here! It's the Horrors: http://www.thehorrors.co.uk/ so cool! kinda like if Klaxons were gother! Dont know if i'm just this fucked up allready or if I'm this much of a perv, but i'm attracted to this member of the horrors http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid;=21068543 although he looks just like my boyfriend and everyone i'ver ever dated. especially because one of the first times we flirted waswe ran into each other drunk at 10 in the morning at the school cafeteria with eyemakeup all over his face and lipstick on his shirt. what is it wiht me and 19-year-old junkies man they do it to me everytime
Posted 12/15/2006 - 09:21:57 PM by :
he looks so sweet and innocent, i want to corrupt him. all dressed up like a badass. i'll show him how that;s done. mwahhaha. meatbreak can bring the whips.

"Clap your hands if you want some more!" No thanks, that was more than enough. Additionally: worst comments ever. You people are losing your touch. Oh, and Jess, have we taken a straw poll of black people with an ISP and figured out how many read Stylus?
Posted 12/17/2006 - 01:24:58 AM by :
I would, if I knew any black people who had the internet, or I will when any of my black friends get the internet. And start reading webzines about indie music.
Posted 12/17/2006 - 08:34:33 AM by johnedowney:
A black friend of mine (into reggaeton, Big Pun, the entire Dipset discography, etc.) made a joke a few months ago about the Arctic Monkeys. Don't know if that fits in at all or not, but, yeah.
Posted 12/17/2006 - 08:30:21 PM by :
one of my black friends really like ESG when I played it for him once. must have been the drums
Posted 12/17/2006 - 09:45:09 PM by :
What those blacks ought to get through their afros is to pick up a guitar like TVondaRadio and they`d rock our world cos we really all just want to be friends right? And once they all do that then finally we`ll get our beautiful coffee coloured world and the word hiphop will become a quaint C.20th anachronism. No really. Then we could actually get some more fucking done in tune with the music.

Another correction... it's just "Promiscuous" not "Promiscuous Girl"
