good luck rejoining society after listening to that much scott walker. just kidding, he rules... nice article.

Very, very conservative article. I don´t agree with most of it, at least. TILT is a masterpiece, that leaves the Scott -2-3-4- stuff miles behind. THE DRIFT, too. THE DRIFT will be the peak of his art.

Good work, Tal. I have to say, I'm kind of with you on preferring the early stuff. Even though at the end of my On First Listen, I said I was looking forward to exploring Tilt more and was similarly excited about The Drift, I've probably only listened to those two records a couple of times since, while I still frequently go back to the '60s stuff.

Creating the works "Climate of Hunter", "Tilt" and the unsurpassable "The Drift", Scott Walker became the visionary personality that could be compared with Rimbaud and other kindred spirits who developed new forms of looking at life by destroying old ones. The early 60´s stuff of Scott Walker was still caught in old chanson etc.- traditions that without doubt had their values. But this was not at all "touching new ground" - that happened later. It´s a bit like looking at "The Colour Of Spring" as THE MASTERPIECE of Talk Talk, downplaying their late works, "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock" as strange and weird stuff. Describing "TILT" as "downtown jazz-rock skronk" is leading on a really wrong track!

I was a bit looking at your aricles,Tal, and well, then I found a sentence that prooves we´re really looking at things and sounds quite differently most of the time. You called the "Kammerflimmer Kollektief" a "rather uninteresting band", something like that. And this group is so damned good and adventurous. They will have a new record out on the label "Staubgold" called "Jinx" in may. Hope you will not review this next truly original body of music. Forget the remixes! They are ignorable!
