Isn't that Orson Welles and Charlton Heston in the Touch of Evil still?

Good call on Miguel Ferrer. "Hot Shots, Part Deux" rules! Although couldn't he just be called the American version of Pete Postlethwaite? True, Ferrer is awfully surly, but have you guys seen "Split Second"? Post as a futureworld police chief constantly getting on the case of Rutger Hauer's Harley Stone is eternally crusty.

Thank you for the bit about Madeleine Kahn...the quote from Clue has become something of a catchphrase amongst my friends.

Not to be nitpicky, but Patty Clarkson played a HEROIN addicted lesbian, not a cokehead, in High Art.

 Will Ruffalo make the cut?

I hope Billy Zabka makes the list. He was the quintessential dick of 80's teen cinema. As a kid I had nightmares of being chased by a pissed-off Zabka dressed as a skeleton. I know Daniel-san couldn't outrun him and I can't remember if I did.

Nice call DeSandro, I hope he makes the list... all we can do is pray and keep our fingers crossed.

What about that one guy? You know, the guy who was in all those movies . . . just kidding.

David Morse's nice guy roles may, indeed, be few and far between. However, he did start out by playing an Ultimate Compassionate Doctor role in the Eighties TV series St. Elsewhere. Much like Christopher Walken, he has a secret, pretty-boy past.

william atherton. yeah..why aren't they featuring 'the man' in films anymore. I used to hate that guy... always trying to mess up willis / the 'busters scene.... simpler, happier days.

Is this list solely focused on Movie Character Actors? If it is, Jon Polito is one that springs immediately to mind. If we include actors that spent most of their time on TV, Andre Braugher and Reg E. Cathey always seem to do a lot with the little they're given in the role.

No Jeffrey Wright or Alfred Molina?

I know he makes it big sometimes, but Michael Caine (as long as we're talking about Gary Oldman, which none of us are, from Batman Begins' excellent cast) is and always has been one of my favorite characters that gets neglected for the bigger names. I know he's not as forgotten as say, Delroy Lindo, but he still isn't on par with other old-guy greats like Ian McKellan or whatever. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000323/ I mean, he's been playing the same role for like 5 years, right? Wasn't he basically just Alfred's twin in The Prestige? Well, aside from the fact that The Prestige had a cast equivalent to Batman Begins (and a hotter co-star, personally), Michael Caine is great as the assistant/wise "I knew your father" sidekick. AND Liam Neeson. Who doesn't love Liam Neeson? He's not a character actor, but I love Liam Neeson.

 gary oldman... incredible.........

stellar. the most-deserving (albeit all-too-obvious) ranks of gary oldman, steve buscemi, harry dean stanton, patricia clarkson, diane wiest, david morse and judy davis should be on anyone's list. and thank you for giving madeline kahn, thelma ritter and miguel ferrer their due mention! but i must amend boynappy's request: where's jeffrey wright? also sad to see frederic forrest, james russo, parker posey and tom waits (oh yes, tom waits) left out! but if i really had to pick three undisputed greats: warren oates!? barbara stanwyck!? john cazale!!?? another fantastic stylus feature, nonetheless...

aarggh, and how could i forget: scott wilson, geoffry lewis, william forsythe and sam bottoms! this is just one of those lists that's going to haunt me with "what abouts" for the next three weeks. i'll be driving, or working, or on the brink of falling asleep and suddenly a spontaneous jolt of consciousness will arrest me -- "theresa russell!!!" -- with another one...

i've always said you could put delroy lindo in anything that starred samuel jackson and it'd be better. someone said peter lorre. add sydney greenstreet to that. does morgan freeman count, or too famous?
