| Thrill Jockey, asshole. Christ, you'd think an indie-rock minutiae website could engage in fact-checking such as, say, looking at the album. Don't get me wrong, it is pretty shitty, but I'm in chicago and have to represent. |
| Yeah, Thrill Jockey. Right away credibility is blown.
Liberation sounds to me like a return to the strength through diversity of The Red Line after the wacky waste of time that was TA. Regardless of whether you think Trans Am's attempts at political "commentary" succeed, the music here is a helluva lot more interesting than most of the "post-rock" competition, especially the forthcoming Sominex simulacrum of Tortoise's new Thrill Jockey disc. Liberation sounds anything BUT "joyless, lifeless and dull" to these ears, but different strokes and all that. Maybe you were reviewing what you perceived as their attitudes more than the music or maybe one of the band slept with your girlfriend... |
| You prefer the new Trans Am over the new Tortoise? Christ, I don't know what to tell you. Like you said, "different strokes." And yeah, Thrill Jockey should take the blame for this one (Not Drag City).
Thanks for writing. |
| I guess I should have checked that, but I've been a touch busy this week... That's my excuse, anyway. And I don't subscribe to the idea that we're an "indie-rock minutiae website" either. |
| I just reviewed the new Tortoise for another publication. I have liked much Tortoise in my life, but it's time to call these guys out when they drop a turd. To quote my review, "It's All Up To You is dinner music for a middling hotel restaurant." Tortoise sound as if they're on the verge of snoozing during most of this album. Beautiful cover, though... |
| Don't you mean "It's All Around You"? RIGHT AWAY CREDIBILITY IS BLOWN!!! JK man, you're cool with me.
Keep me awares to my grammatical errors. |
| Whoop, you got me. Just proves how boring the Tortoise album is--dulled my senses to the point I couldn't even remember the freakin' title... |
| The issue of the label being incorrect has been corrected as of 04/02/04. |
