| Dear Readers,
I wrote this review but what you see before me was edited by the Editor of Stylus Magazine, the 23-year old Todd Burns. He changed the line "current folk king" into "current folk queer" in reference to Devendra Banhart. I've talked to Mr. Banhart on several occasions and many of my good friends and close with him and I would like to personally apologize for what can only be deemed as a juvenile and unfunny joke. I do not know Mr. Banhart's sexuality and that is, ultimately, besdie the point. The original line called him the current folk "king," denoting the fact that he is the most popular of the recent new folk singer/songwriters and one most people relate to and enjoy. How that can be changed and legitmately defended as a proper edit is beyond me and behalf of myself I would like to apologize to Mr. Banhart and anyone this may have offended even if I did not write it in the first place. I have recently resigned from Stylus Magazine after a similar yet much less offensive edit was made in my last review. There is no excuse for what the line in this review you have just read, probably in as much shock as I was. This will probably be deleted and the edit never changed which is quite unfortunate. Sincerely,
Josh Honn |

| Wonderful review, and I'm sorry to hear you're leaving.
I thought that 'current folk queer' referred to Banhart's "freak-folk" (like your grandma's definition of queer).
You may be taking things a bit too seriously, but that's your decision. Anyway, this album is incredible.. eek |

| Just for the record: Todd Burns did NOT edit this review. |

| My apologies for calling out Mr. Burns by name as I was unaware at the time he did not make the edit. That was as unprofessional as the edit. I may be taking this too seriously but I don't like being offended by my own writingand while I see your point many others won't, sadly (trust me, I've already heard such reactions from people related to this release though I won't name names). Anyway, thanks for the kind words and, again, I apologize to Mr. Burns but my stance on the edit stands. |
