| I don't know if it's entirely appropriate to rip you to shreds, but this review is apalling. It you need to employ your own personal fact checker just to maintain Stylus's high level of sophistication, please do so, because as it stands, this review is five paragraphs of poorly written misinformative drivel.
First of all, "bastard children"? What is that even supposed to mean? The French Kicks are from Washington, D.C., and their guitarist and backup vocalist, Josh Wise, is from Alabama. They moved to Brooklyn a few years ago. You mean adopted children, then, I suppose?
Second of all, Matt Stinchcomb left the band after Trial Of The Century was recorded. He has nothing to do with Two Thousand. The lead vocalist is Nick Stumpf. It would take approximately thirty seconds of reading the band's bio on Vagrant Records' home page to learn this information.
And what about the obvious comparisons to the Walkmen? These two bands are friends, and whether they're conscious of it or not, there is some inevitable borrowing that goes on.
And your references to post-punk are needless, as is the entire first paragraph about New York. The Kicks live in Brooklyn, and it's only their home away from home. Much of their songs are about D.C., and it's not clear how much it really matters *where* their songs are about.
If you think this album is worth a B+, you should at least respect the band enough to find something out about them before you sit down to write.
I've always thought Stylus was superior to Pitchfork, but this review has made me rethink that. |
