| Mr. Gaerig´s welcome return to form after temporarary deafness for all the subtleties of M. Ward´s "Post-War":) |
| how is Ease Down The Road not a proper-solo release? |
| Like Tuffgnarl before me, I can't believe how the reviewer has managed to miss Billy's second solo album "Ease Down The Road", or in any way doesn't consider it a solo album...
In my humble opinion, "Ease" is the best Billy album ever, beautiful songs beyond belief ... and the singing ... sigh!
| Another thing: "The Letting Go" and "Ease Down The Road" have VERY similar album covers!!
| Well, the best Billy-album....such a discussion would be similar to the high-brow talk of Dylan experts all over the world discussing "Modern Times":) A bit of subjectivity should be part of the game: for me, the most essential albums of "Billy" are: 1) Master and Everyone 2) Ease Down The Road 3) The Letting-Go and 4) I See A Darkness - the ranking is changing depending on mood:) - for me these works are all A! |
| Florenz6, I am going to be contentious here and ask, did you just list the best Billy albums in reverse order? |
| No, Meatbreak! |
| Indeed, Mr. Gaerig, glad to see you've regained your senses. |
| sir gaerig,
so many months after the review, i'm sure you'll never read this. but i just recently got the album, and i think you and many other critics missed something, so what the hell. in a lot of reviews, the style of the album was presented as somewhat of a twist for bonnie "prince", but this neater and more compositionally attentive will oldham is a direct continuation of his "no more workhorse blues" ep and his collaborations with matt sweeny and tortoise. i think i like this album a whole lot more than you did (it's one of my favorites of the decade, actually), so this simply may not concern you. but i think it's innacurate to talk about it as a stylistic abberation, because he's been putting out music like this (under the bonnie "prince" billy alias to boot) for a few years now. |
