| quite a good review. I definitely agree with the point about the lyrics being a bit obvious in meaning, which is to the album's detriment in my opinion. Well, Homme certainly drops a few lyrical clanger here and there, although i suppose there's still plenty of his smooth wit spread around as well. But i do think lyrics are where this album seems to fall down (although perhaps the performance of the lyrics has something to do with it as well. Sometimes the delivery just seems a little bit.. off). I'm also not completely sure about the production but might just put it down to artistic intent. Overall, i might raise the grade up a notch or so since i've been enjoying it so much, but that'd just be nitpicking |

| The Queens discography is truly strange, Their most acclaimed album, the one that kickstarted their rise, Rated R, is possibly the most throwaway 7 years on. Songs For The Deaf, Their most popular, has some patchy moments, Lullabies is so strange and twisted Im suprised their fans dont like it more. This album really is a grower, Im digging the smoother vox on certain songs (the choruses of Turning On The Screw and Im Designer especially). And their best album (the first one, with the awesome mans ruin artwork) is out of print!
Bottom line - This continues the paradox Queens albums have perpetuated, a dissapointing album thats fucking good. |
